Introducing Merantix Capital

A new name, but the same commitment to building and investing in category-defining AI-native ventures

Today we are thrilled to unveil the next chapter of our journey and introduce you to Merantix Capital, and this new Substack, Merantix Capital News.

But before we dive into the exciting future, we want to take a moment to revisit our past. When we founded Merantix in 2016, it was with a mission to build revolutionary, category-defining AI-native companies. From Cambrium to Deltia to Ovom Care and more, we built 12 ventures doing just that.

Our vision grew. We’ve expanded into new terrain such as Merantix Momentum, our AI solutions business that now boasts a team of 60 engineers and provides cutting-edge AI expertise to enterprises. In 2021, we launched the Merantix AI Campus, home to 1,300 members all working in different corners of AI. Last year, we initiated AI House Davos during the World Economic Forum meeting, providing a platform for global leaders across business, government, and academia to collaborate on AI’s future. We’ve used this newsletter, formerly “AI Reality Bites,” to bring you updates on how AI research is being implemented in practice.

Merantix has evolved far beyond our early ambitions. Candidly, it made our “brand” a bit confusing. What is Merantix? A lot of different things all at once.

Taken together, Merantix isn’t just an investor, but rather a group of companies and initiatives all driving AI forward in Europe.

The Next Chapter: Merantix Capital

Which brings us to today. We’re proud to introduce Merantix Capital as the new, distinct home for all of Merantix’s venture capital investing activities. It’s a new name with a new look and feel, but Merantix Capital is built on the same DNA that has defined us from the start.

At Merantix Capital, we will continue to back visionary AI founders with deep domain expertise through our latest AI fund, focusing on pre-idea entrepreneurs as well as pre-seed and seed-stage companies. Our investing thesis also remains the same, reflecting our belief that the true value of AI lies in its application layer —where technology meets real-world, industry-level impact.

With this new change, this Substack is now becoming Merantix Capital News, where you’ll continue to receive articles from Rasmus about the latest breakthroughs in AI research and practice, Adrian’s thoughts about investing in AI, as well as other updates and insights from our portfolio and founders.
